Our
world is going through some difficult times right now as most of you
already know. This was really brought home to us here this past
week as our facility was broken into by thieves last Wednesday
morning. We are fortunate that they did not do any more damage than
they did. While we are left with what will be some pretty good
repair bills - replacing the broken glass where they entered the
building and the door jam of the office which they broke through -
it is the children of Hope Harbor Children’s Home that are hurt the
most. We had between 8 and 10 change cans completely full waiting
to go to Hope Harbor and they stole them all, probably somewhere
between $300 and $500 dollars. I would ask you to pray for us and
the Children’s Home to help us get through this, but I especially
ask you to pray for those guilty of this crime. They obviously are
in need of serious help, pray that God will forgive them.
The
Lord willing, you will find an insert in the bulletin today entitled
“Quick Scriptures for Teens” by Allen Webster. Pam and I met
brother Webster at the Polishing The Pulpit lectures we were able to
attend a few years ago. Allen preaches for the church in
Jacksonville, AL. He is a very gifted preacher and writer. One of
the many things in which Allen is involved is the House to House
publication. This particular article was in the Jacksonville
bulletin. While the title of the article says it is for teens, I
suggest that this particular article is for anyone who calls himself
or herself a Christian. Allen has listed scriptures for just about
any topic or activity that we struggle with in our society today.
Just a few of the topics are attitude, morality, dancing, sexuality
along with many others. He also covers general topics such as
purpose in life, relationships and salvation. I would encourage
everyone to keep a copy of this sheet handy at all times. Then when
questions arise from friends, family or even in one’s own mind about
various things, just pull out this sheet and study the various
passages of scripture given concerning the topic in question. If
you want more copies than just the one, let us know and we can make
you as many copies as you need.
I
mentioned Polishing The Pulpit earlier. Brother Webster is one of
the men who helps organize this great event each year. It has now,
apparently, settled in at Sevierville, TN. If you or anyone you
know may happen to be in that area, the dates for PTP are Aug. 27 -
Sept. 2. There will be 102 speakers from 13 states with ten class
choices each hour with 375 class topics from which to chose. Over
those seven days each person will receive 60 hours of instruction.
Special classes are scheduled for preachers, elders, deacons, youth
workers, women, teens, children, families and Bible teachers. I
think you can see why Pam and I enjoyed this so much the only time
we were able to attend. We still hope to be able to return and be a
part of this very special event at some point in the future. It is
a very special time of learning, fellowship and encouragement.
